HAGS Collective Inc – The Gathering Thread: Rural LGBTQIA+ Connection and Recovery

The H.A.G.S. Collective Inc. is a rural, survivor- and queer-led charity transforming Hope, Art, Growth & Survival into everyday action in Oaklands NSW. They support all women and LGBTQIA+ people affected by domestic and family violence, bigotry, and social isolation especially in small towns where services are scarce and stigma persists.

HAGS Collective Inc received a small grant for The Gathering Thread, a community-led project providing safe, low-barrier gatherings for older women and LGBTQIA+ people experiencing isolation, housing insecurity, and the impacts of domestic violence. Through creative activities, shared meals, and peer connection, the project will build wellbeing, reduce isolation, and create space for voices to be heard. Running over 8–10 weeks, it will include outreach, regular gatherings, and a final session to identify ongoing needs. This project responds to urgent local need, with individuals currently living in unsafe conditions, and aims to build connection and inform future support.
