Ben Anderson Presents: “Cruel Britannia: After Frankenstein”

“Cruel Britannia: After Frankenstein” is a daring and revolutionary theatrical adaptation of Mary Shelley’s novel, set in 1980s Thatcher’s Britain, and told from a transgender perspective.

Through this play, trans writer/performer Kristen Smyth and her team of six queer (predominantly trans) creatives will explores themes of gender dysphoria and societal upheaval.

With support from the PFA Small Grant and Arts Centre Melbourne, Ben Anderson Presents will develop and rehearse the play, culminating in a 2 week season in ACM’s new performance space “The Show Room” in November 2024.

Through collaborative development and production, they aim to challenge perceptions, amplify trans voices, and spark crucial conversations about identity and acceptance within our community and beyond.
