Blame the Shadows is an interdisciplinary and multimedia art practice, exploring themes of displacement, memory, identity, and belonging, with a focus on emotionally intimate and socially engaged storytelling. The work of Blame the Shadows is presented across galleries, festivals, and cultural contexts in Australia and internationally, and is supported by long-term partnerships, residencies, and mentorships.
Blame the Shadows are awarded a PFA small grant to fund a video project documenting stories of queer migrants living in regional Victoria. Filmed in January 2026 at Aireys Inlet, it will combine film, choreography and sound to explore identity, belonging and resilience through connection to place. The project culminates in a free community screening at Aireys Inlet Community Hall. Presented as part of Midsumma Festival’s Victoria’s Pride Regional Activation Program, it will amplify the visibility of regional LGBTQIA+ migrants while strengthening cross-cultural dialogue and pride. The project aims to create an inclusive and culturally safe space for participants and audiences to connect, build empathy across generations, and celebrate queer identity within regional communities.
