We have had a busy year, working to build our reach and impact. We have made grants of $15,000 in two grant rounds with the Myer Foundation (total grants of $35,000), $5,000 to Switchboard for a suicide prevention initiative, and $10,000 in twenty ‘small grants’. We have also supported our sub-fund The Channel to grant a further $40,000, via two large and 1 small grant round. We are very pleased that the Sidney Myer Trustees will continue to provide $20,000 per year towards our collaborative grant rounds.
The Board had a very successful planning day in June with our patron Dennis Altman. We agreed on our key funding priority areas for the next 3 years, which are LGBTIQA+ homelessness, disability, and a new focus on asylum seekers and refugees. Our revised statement of purpose reflects this work. Our Victorian Government funded communications manager, Cathy Kirwan, has worked on our key messages based around advancing equity for LGBTIQA+ Australians, and has developed an excellent fundraising & communications plan.
GALFA Statement of Purpose
GALFA is a national philanthropic foundation and one of few organisations that is specifically focused on funding lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, intersex and queer (LGBTIQ) issues in Australia. GALFA actively works to increase philanthropic support for the Australian LGBTIQ and allied communities through fundraising, grant giving, collaboration and commissioning projects. GALFA adopts a social change model to our philanthropy and has a dedicated focus on advancing equity for the most disadvantaged LGBTIQ Australians, including advocating for systemic change. Specific LGBTIQ focus areas to date have been ageing, homelessness and disability; and a new focus area on asylum seekers and refugees is underway.
