Transgenre Volume II

TRANSGENRE is a DIY initiative celebrating trans and non-binary voices in Australian music.

For as long as there’s been a music industry and for as long as there have been music festivals, trans and non-binary people have found themselves relegated to the periphery of these spaces, if not excluded entirely. With this in mind, TRANSGENRE festival was developed in 2023 – a music festival with an entirely trans, nonbinary and gender nonconforming lineup in Sydney.

A small grant was awarded to the organisers toward the second edition of TRANSGENRE festival.

Right now, the trans community is starved of positive representation within the music industry. The first edition of the festival garnered a shocking amount of positive feedback, due to being the first and only festival of its kind. As such, the organisers feel a deep sense of responsibility to do it again and to ensure its sustainability.
