Transfolk WA: Bla(c)k and brown TGD community catch up

Transfolk WA is a non-profit organisation with a clear Vision, that all trans and gender diverse people are valued and empowered members of communities. Incorporated in 2017, Transfolk WA’s Purpose is to inform, empower, and advocate for trans and gender diverse people to survive and thrive in Western Australia.

A Small Grant was awarded to Transfolk WA to funding a facilitated morning tea for TGD First Nations and People of Colour, with the aim to build a trusting relationship with the community, and to provide an opportunity for participants to connect and build peer relationships.

Many TGD First Nations & POC individuals feel disconnected from LGBTIQA+ services. National studies, like ‘Private Lives 3’ confirm this is due to services lacking cultural safety and experiences of racism within the community itself. Therefore, establishing a foundation of trust is the necessary first step for any future programming to be effective. This foundational meeting is designed for listening, with the hope of informing future, truly community-led events.
