Riverland Youth Theatre: Pride Crafts and Movie Night

Riverland Youth Theatre (RYT) enriches the lives of young people in the South Australian Riverland and Mallee through creativity, theatre, and play. They make art with and for their community, empower children and young people as artists, makers, storytellers, learners, and doers.

Riverland Youth Theatre is a safe space for the local LGBTQIA+ community. A majority of youth participants identify themselves as queer, and RYT run an ongoing 18+ LGBTQIA+ social group “The Judys”. They have run a number of LGBTQIA+ focused programs in the past, including “There I Am”, a project funded by FRRR exploring and celebrating LGBTQIA+ identities. RYT hold an important role in their community as many of their young people speak of the difficulties of living in a regional area as queer youth, so RYT work tirelessly to create safe and inclusive spaces to support them.

A Small Grant has been awared to Riverland Youth Theatre towards the funding of an event for LGBTQIA+ young people in the Riverland. Their event will consist of a movie and craft event with badge making, patch designing, embroidery, etc. RYT will provide food and various rainbow pride items for participants too.
