Radical Fields is an arts and cultural organisation based on Djarra Country in Glenloyon. They work with artists and community to explore the ‘serious play’ of artistic processes. As an inclusive regional arts and cultural organisation in the regional queer destination of Hepburn Shire, Victoria, Radical Fields works directly to include members of the LGBTQIA+ community and artists to create artworks involving queer storytelling.
In their 2023-24 season, Radical Fields worked with queer artist Martin John Lee to develop an interactive work exploring Australia’s first queer bushranger, Captain Moonlite. Radical Fields holds a special interest in highlighting the rainbow community driven by their Founder and Director, Ryan F Kennedy, a gay man himself.
Radical Fields believes their local elders’ stories of queer rural living are of great value yet remain under represented. With this Small Grant funding, they will develop a new socially engaged art work highlighting regional elderly LGBTQIA+ stories.
Radical Fields and facilitator Delia Allens are curating a storytelling project which includes a story gathering event at Hepburn House, their regions’ Rainbow Tick Accredited senior centre. At this event elderly LGBTQIA+ peoples will be directly involved in sharing their stories through letter writing and audio recordings. Those stories will then be developed through performance workshops at their monthly meetups and presented as an art installation at Radical Fields’ annual Harvest event 22nd March ‘25.
