PYT Fairfield: Pickled (كبيس)

PYT Fairfield envisions a world where anyone from anywhere can dare to make art and place it on stages worldwide. They exist to offer young and emerging artists from Western Sydney a solid foundation with which to build on their creativity. They share their expertise and create an environment that enables artists to grow and flourish, so that our arts landscape showcases a more reflective Australia.

A Small Grant was awarded to PYT Fairfield to support Pickled (كبيس); a deeply meaningful project that intertwines personal queer childhood stories with Arab heritage. A raw and heart-wrenching queer play about grief and human connection, this project explores the complex dynamics of familial grief and cultural preservation.

From July to September 2024, they will consult with Queer Cultural Consultants from Arab Theatre Studios to ensure the cultural authenticity and depth of the work. The consultants will facilitate two Community Night Q&A’s to engage with our audience. Their expertise will ensure the cultural elements are portrayed with the utmost respect and authenticity, enriching the narrative with genuine cultural depth and nuance.

This project not only reflects the community’s diversity but also addresses its unique challenges and aspirations. It embodies my commitment to fostering culturally rich and safe environments where marginalised voices are celebrated and represented authentically.
