Kit is an emerging performance artist, horticulturist and teacher, living on Wangal Land, making accessible and multidisciplinary vocal practice. Kit has received a small grant from Pride Foundation Australia towards his one-man performance Castrati.
Castrati is a one-hour multidisciplinary mosaic, straddling the future and the past by combining old and new artforms. This one-man performance by Kit Spencer will premiere its second iteration at the Old Fitz Theatre, 11-16 November with new and uplifted developments.
Until November, the show will undergo rewrites and additions, including blocking, choreography and lighting design. Through memoir, historical investigation, and operatic arias, Castrati offers new perspectives on the history of the virtuosic and often maligned castrato.
Kit Spencer explores parallels with the overlooked trans masculine voice, defying constraints of gender orthodoxy across the centuries, and engaging audiences with music’s past, present, and future.
