headspace Kempsey: Queer Prom

headspace Kempsey is a centre that operates on Dunghutti land. Their service is funded by the Federal Government and managed by Healthy North Coast to provide mental health, physical health, alcohol and other drug, and vocational/educational supports to young people in the Kempsey and surrounding areas.

Queer Prom, organized by headspace Kempsey, is a youth-led, inclusive event designed to create a safe, celebratory space for LGBTQIA+ youth and allies in the Kempsey region. Planned for October of 2025, the event will feature a Halloween theme, engaging young people in a night of self-expression, connection, and pride.

The primary goal is to promote mental health and community connectedness by fostering a sense of belonging for LGBTQIA+ young people in a rural area, where access to inclusive events is often limited. They aim to address the unique challenges faced by LGBTQIA+ youth, such as discrimination and limited access to affirming spaces, through connecting them to LGBTQIA+-friendly services in Kempsey and address how to be an ally.
