Our purpose

To benefit LGBTQIA+ people and allied communities
in Australia by advancing equity for the most disadvantaged LGBTQIA+ Australians and support for LGBTQIA creative arts.

Pride Foundation Australia (PFA – formerly GALFA) is a national philanthropic foundation specifically focused on funding lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, intersex, asexual and other (LGBTQIA+) community issues in Australia.

The Foundation actively works to increase philanthropic support for the Australian LGBTQIA+ and allied communities through fundraising, grant giving, collaboration and commissioning projects.

Pride Foundation Australia has a dedicated focus on advancing equity for the most disadvantaged LGBTQIA+ Australians, including advocating for systemic change and LGBTQIA creative arts.

Specific LGBTQIA+ Priority Areas to date have been: healthy ageing, homelessness and disability; new focus area on asylum seekers and refugees living in Australia has been established and grants have been made. Our new area of support for LGBTQIA visual, literary and performing arts is being planned for launch in 2021.

Adopting a social change model to our philanthropy we:

  • Focus more on overcoming the causes of disadvantage and inequality.
  • Include people impacted by injustices as decision-makers.
  • Make philanthropy more accessible and diverse.
  • Are accountable, transparent and responsive in grant-making.
  • See donors and foundations as allies to social justice, contributing not only monetary resources but our time, knowledge, skills and access to power.
