An Award Winning LGBTIQ+ Disability Initiative

Pride Foundation Australia were recognised for ‘Excellence in Creating Inclusive Communities’ at the 2019 Victorian Disability Awards this month. Our LGBTIQ+ Disability Initiative, lead by board member Ian Gould, received a Highly Commended award.

The award was presented by the Victorian Minister for Disability, Ageing and Carers, Hon Luke Donnellan. We send our thanks to the whole project team, and to David and VALID for nominating us.

Congratulations also to Nathan Despott, and all our good friends at Inclusion Melbourne Inc. Their I Can Vote project, a world first inclusive voting campaign, was awarded a Highly Commended for ‘Excellence in promoting rights, fairness and safety’.

Inclusion Melbourne was the recipient of our very first grant for LGBTIQ+ disability, and we are delighted and proud of our continuing partnership.

“During the awards process it struck me that what LGBTIQ+ and the PWD communities have been working for over many years, separately, and at last making achievements in wanting the same thing. All we want is: To be who we are; To be equal; and ‘Nothing for us, without us’.” – Ian Gould
