Pride Foundation Australia has awarded a $25,000 grant to Monash University’s Monash Centre for Occupational and Environmental Health (MonCOEH) towards the research project ‘Pride at Work: Understanding the mental health challenges facing LGBTQIA+ workers and identifying priorities for building inclusive workplace‘.
This project will involve the design, completion, and analysis of a survey of 250-500 LGBTQIA+ workers in Australia, as well as semi-structured interviews with 20-30 of these workers. The research will be facilitated by MonCOEH and lead by project manager, Dr Lee Tomic, a member of the LGBTQIA+ community with experience in mental health advocacy and occupational health research.
There is currently no best practice in terms of workplace inclusion for LGBTQIA+ staff. This project will take the crucial first step in bridging research and workplace action regarding LGBTQIA+ workers’ mental health. Findings will inform further phases of research, with the ultimate goal of devising and implementing evidence-based guidelines for workplaces to optimise the mental health of LGBTQIA+ workers.
Pride Foundation Australia look forward to sharing the results of this important research with our community as the project progresses.
